The summer market in LaLiga is marking an abysmal difference in the investment made by the capital clubs and the rest. Between Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid, both teams accumulate 320.5 million euros in reinforcements in the current transfer window, with the mission of surpassing an implacable FC Barcelona in the 24/25.

Hansi Flick's team comes from winning the national treble (League, Cup and Super Cup) surpassing Real and Atlético by far in the three competitions, therefore, with a young and consolidated squad, they have opted for a conservative market for the second consecutive season.

For the moment, the 'culés' have only invested 25 million euros in the signing of Joan García. Marcus Rashford arrived via loan, with Barça taking over his salary (14 M€) to avoid getting rid of an extra compensation to Manchester United.

The 'Fair Play' problems of the 'azulgranas', logically, have conditioned the spending in the market. The club still fails to operate under the 1:1 rule and, for now, does not have enough salary margin to register its reinforcements. In 2024, the 'culés' spent 60.5 M€ in Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor, whose registration later gave problems to Barça.

Real and Atlético triple the spending on Barça signings in the last five years

This is how, with the exception of 22/23, where Barça led the table of teams that spent the most on reinforcements with a total of 159 'kilos', Real and Atlético practically triple the investment in the market during the last five years.

Since 2021, the 'colchoneros' are the team that has spent the most on reinforcements, with a total of 512.7 million euros. Real Madrid follows, with 471 million, that is, both clubs have invested 983.7 'kilos' in signings in the last five years, while Barça barely reaches 347.4 M€.

The 'Casa Blanca' paid 113 million for Jude Bellingham in 2023, by far the most expensive signing in LaLiga since then. The figures of 'merengues' and 'rojiblancos', yes, are light years away from what English clubs spend. Only Liverpool (308 M€) and Manchester City (145 M€) already exceed the barrier of 450 million this summer (453 M€).

Top investment in signings in LaLiga (2021-2026):

  1. Atlético de Madrid: 512.7 M€
  2. Real Madrid: 471 M€
  3. FC Barcelona: 347.4 M€
  4. Villarreal: 159.4 M€
  5. Real Betis: 133.9 M€

Barça doesn't even enter the podium of signings this year

In 25/26, Real Madrid has distributed its 167.5 million euros in signings in four reinforcements: Dean Huijsen (62.5 M€); Álvaro Carreras (50 M€); Franco Mastantuono (45 M€) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (10 M€).

The signing of Mastantuono, yes, reaches 63.2 'kilos' including the CPI and other variables, although the payment of the clause will be made in three annual installments. For its part, Atlético has spent 153 'kilos' on six reinforcements, since Clément Lenglet arrived for free after rescinding his contract with Barça.

In contrast, the 'azulgrana' team has only spent, for the moment, on Joan García, an operation that reached 26.3 M€ including the CPI. Marcus Rashford, the second reinforcement of the first team, arrived on loan and without an extra compensation to United.

It is for this reason that, for the moment, Betis completes the podium of investment in signings in the summer market 2025 of LaLiga. The 'verdiblancos' have incorporated six reinforcements for a total value of 28.3 'kilos'.
