Raphinha, key in Barça's project: Laporta accelerates his renewal to shield him from millionaire offers
FC Barcelona has no doubts about the importance of renewing Raphinha. Although the Brazilian has two years left on his contract, the 'Culés' board seeks to reward the '11's great season with a new contract befitting one of the main references of the squad.
Together with Lamine Yamal and Robert Lewandowski, Rafa has formed the most lethal trident in Europe, the 'LRL'. Between the three of them, they have scored 92 goals this season, even surpassing some of the records of the historic 'MSN', which in its first season (14/15) scored 122 goals.
Of the 'Culés' trident's 92 goals in 24/25, 34 have been scored by Raphinha, who still has one more game (against Athletic) to continue improving his records in a season where he also has 23 assists. No player in Spain produced as many goals as the South American winger (57) in all competitions.
Joan Laporta confirms the intention to renew Raphinha as soon as possible
In a recent chat with 'La Vanguardia', Joan Laporta referred to the 'Azulgrana' renewal plan, alluding to the cases of Lamine Yamal, Frenkie de Jong and Raphinha. Regarding the Brazilian, the Barça president assured that "closing his continuity is one of the pending issues for the coming days or weeks".
"We don't want to have any player pending who has one year left on their contract. We want them to have more years because they have earned it and because, in addition, we are interested as a club in maintaining this group, which is a winner," argued the 'Azulgrana' president.
Rafa has a contract until June 2027 and his termination clause is 1,000 million euros. For the moment, the '11' invoices 12.5 'kilos' gross per season, a salary that will suffer an adjustment after his renewal for four more years, until 2029.
Barça paid 58M € to Leeds United for his transfer in 2022, a figure that at the time seemed high for a low-profile player who, in his third season, has established himself as one of the best wingers in the world. Not in vain, his value already reaches 80M € in Transfermarkt and he is emerging as one of the virtual finalists for the 2025 Ballon d'Or.
Raphinha has fully earned his continuity at Barça
In that sense, Raphinha has fully earned his renewal with the club, after being singled out as one of the possible discards last summer. Hansi Flick's arrival on the 'Azulgrana' bench gave the Brazilian the necessary confidence to perform at his best in a position where he did not feel entirely comfortable.
In Arabia they insist on making him one of the best paid athletes on the planet, but the 28-year-old striker has no intention of leaving the elite at the best moment of his career. Barça, meanwhile, secures his sporting and financial future with a project that promises to continue giving excellent results in the medium term.
