The renewal of Wojciech Szczęsny with FC Barcelona is very close to being finalized. At least that's what Polish journalist Tomasz Włodarczyk, from the media outlet Meczyki.pl, has corroborated, who assures that the goalkeeper will sign his contract extension shortly.
According to the aforementioned media, the lawyers of the Warsaw-born goalkeeper are finalizing the details of the new link, which will unite him with the Blaugrana club until June 30, 2027.
The information adds that the possible arrival of Joan García, a goalkeeper for whom the culé team would have paid around €25M to RCD Espanyol to acquire his services, did not affect 'Tek''s intentions to continue wearing the Barcelona team's jersey. The '25' would like to continue in the Ciudad Condal team despite the incorporation of a young goalkeeper who is expected to be the starter.
A key renewal to clarify Barcelona's goal
The renewal of Szczesny brings clarity to the situation of the Blaugrana goal, where different scenarios are being considered for the next season. In principle, the Pole would continue for one more season in the Blaugrana squad, assuming a role that, according to various sources, would be that of second goalkeeper.
THE SCENARIOS THAT SZCZESNY COULD FACE AFTER HIS RENEWAL WITH BARÇA:
- If Barcelona definitively closes the incorporation of Joan García and decides to get rid of Marc-André ter Stegen, the Catalan would assume the position of starter, and Szczesny would remain as his top-level squire.
- If Barcelona decides to loan Joan García due to the 'overbooking' of goalkeepers, Ter Stegen would remain as the starter and Szczesny as his trusted substitute.
Beyond these scenarios, it cannot be ruled out that 'Tek' will fight for the starting position. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated competitive character and the ability to prevail in duels for the position. He finished the season as the starting goalkeeper, totaling 2,726 minutes in a total of 30 matches, with 14 clean sheets and 36 goals conceded.
