Szczesny makes Barça wait to renew

The sports management of FC Barcelona wants to close the most important movements of the Blaugrana team in advance. One of these would be to seal the renewal of Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, who is expected to be the second goalkeeper during the next season, after the arrival of Joan García.

In this sense, the native of Warsaw went to enjoy his vacations without signing the papers that would keep him for at least one more season as a Blaugrana player.

It should be noted that the 35-year-old goalkeeper's contract expires this June 30, so after that period he will become a free player, something that Barça would probably have wanted to avoid.

'Tek' arrived at Barça at the beginning of last October after the serious injury suffered by Marc-André Ter Stegen during the sixth matchday of LaLiga 2024/25 against Villarreal, where he presented a complete rupture of the patellar tendon of his right knee.

However, despite the fact that the signing has been delayed, Szczesny has never closed the doors to a renewal with Barcelona. Therefore, according to the latest rumors, it would only be a matter of time before he ends up signing.

Szczesny's renewal, a family decision

Before the end of the season, Wojciech commented that the decision on a possible renewal would be made jointly with his family. In this way, the '25' of the culé team showed that he would not decide overnight what to do with his future.

"I don't hide that they offered me a two-year extension, but I have to decide with my family what is best for us. I think I owe it to my family, to my wife, to make these decisions together, so I haven't made any yet."

Similarly, 'Tek' highlighted the figure of his wife in decision-making, and also stated that in principle they were determined to go to Barcelona for only one year. However, now the club's offer, which apparently would be a contract for one more season plus an optional one (1+1), changes Szczesny's plans.
