Julian Nagelsmann spoke about the 'soap opera' between Ter Stegen and Barça. The German coach asked Hansi Flick to clarify the goalkeeper's future as soon as possible, who is expected to leave this summer.

Calendar of FC Barcelona

Rumors about the possible departure of Marc-André ter Stegen from FC Barcelona have generated noise in the German national team. After the defeat against France (0-2), for the third place of the UEFA Nations League, coach Julian Nagelsmann asked the club to clarify the situation of the goalkeeper as soon as possible, since the rumors, logically, affect the player.

"I think that is something very human, that all this affects you, when you constantly read and hear things about yourself and then you don't really receive information about what is going to happen", Nagelsmann began by referring to the market rumors.

At the moment, Ter Stegen has a contract until 2028 and does not plan to leave Barcelona. However, the signing of Joan García and the imminent renewal of Wojciech Szczesny relegate him to a secondary role that the '1', hardly, will be willing to assume.

Nagelsmann asks Flick to be honest with Ter Stegen and 'gets wet' about his future

In that sense, the German coach believes that Barça should meet with the experienced goalkeeper to clear up doubts about his future. "I would like (Marc-André) to receive in some way information about how all this is going to continue". In addition, he valued the hierarchy and quality of the Mönchengladbach native, who arrived at the club in 2014 and, therefore, is the first captain of the team.

"If one looks at it objectively, he has a contract and is an exceptionally good goalkeeper, he has shown that to everyone. Therefore, he can face the situation with relative calm", Flick pointed out, assuring that, regardless of where he is, the '1' should not worry about his future.

In the last hours, AC Milan has sounded like one of the possible destinations for the 33-year-old goalkeeper. The departure of Mike Maignan (Chelsea) forces the 'rossoneri' to sign another goalkeeper and coach Massimiliano Allegri would be delighted to incorporate the azulgrana captain.

Ter Stegen returns to Barcelona to define his future

Beyond this and other market rumors (in Arabia they also want him), Ter Stegen has returned to Barcelona after concluding his participation in the Nations League, where he could not avoid the defeats of Germany against Portugal (2-1) and France (2-0) despite doing a good job (he made 4 saves against the Portuguese and 7 against the French).

Now, the '1' will go on a month's vacation waiting for a 'summit' with the azulgrana board to define his future. In principle, Barça could offer him the payment of one year of his net salary (around 7 'kilos') to give him a letter of freedom.

However, if Marc-André refuses to leave, the club would be forced to pay him a sum close to 42 million euros for the three years of contract that the player has left. This amount covers his gross salary, apart from other bonuses and performance bonuses.

A way, logically, that Barça is not in a position to face. In addition, the board has made it clear on repeated occasions that it will not force the departure of any of its referents. Ter Stegen has been the owner of the culé goal since 2016 (422 official matches, 19 titles) and his performance and conduct have always been exemplary.

Hence the obligation to find a respectful resolution that avoids a 'soap opera' in the coming weeks. What is a fact is that the club will sign Joan García (the best goalkeeper in LaLiga 24/25) as a long-term bet and, if the German decides to stay, he will almost certainly be a substitute in Liga and Champions.

Hansi Flick, for his part, will remain firm to his philosophy: the starting goalkeeper will be the one who demonstrates the best conditions to defend the azulgrana goal. In the final stretch of 24/25, the coach put Ter Stegen against Valladolid and Villarreal in Liga, but respected Szczesny's good moment by keeping him in the XI for the 'semis' of Champions.
