Vinicius Jr. reconsiders his renewal with Real Madrid due to sporting and economic doubts. Discover what's behind the change
Will there be a Vinicius Jr. 'soap opera' at Real Madrid? It's not clear. However, all the uncertainty surrounding the renewal of the contract that links him to the merengue team until June 30, 2027 suggests that the resolution of this issue will not be, at least, the fastest of all.
Vinicius Jr. had everything agreed to renew... Or not?
In principle, it was said that the left winger already had everything agreed with the white team to sign a contract extension until the year 2030. However, recently information has come to light that denies such an agreement.
According to OK Diario, the former Flamengo player would have doubts about renewing his contract with the Madrid entity. This distrust would have appeared during the dispute of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, especially after the grotesque spectacle given by those from Chamartín against Paris Saint-Germain, falling defeated 4-0 in the 'semis' of the tournament.
In turn, as suggested by the aforementioned source, to that hard defeat is added the fact that, in the training prior to the match against the Parisians, the one from São Gonçalo was part of the substitutes' team in the rehearsal directed by Xabi Alonso.
But, the Tolosarra coach, given the injury of Trent Alexander-Arnold, had to change his plans and switch from 3-4-3 to 4-3-3, where Vini was seen playing on the right. A demarcation in which he was perhaps uncomfortable and without exploiting his best version.
Is the '7' reconsidering his status and his renewal?
Precisely, that sense of threat to his status as 'untouchable' in the team would have changed his thinking, to the point of putting a 'stop' to his renewal. Likewise, other sources —as is the case of the newspaper The Athletic— go a little further and contribute that, above the sporting aspect, the difference between both parties would be due to the economic issue.
The aforementioned American media suggests that Vini would be demanding to be the best paid in the merengue squad, requesting about 30 'kilos' net per course, with a renewal bonus included. Amounts that, apparently, the white club is not willing to pay, although in the contract extension offer there would have been a slight increase compared to his current salary benefits, which are around 10 M€ net per campaign.
Real Madrid, without haste but with caution
Under that premise, it is said that, despite all this, from Real Madrid a certain calm is transmitted with this situation. They understand that, having a contract until 2027, it is a case that still has room to be handled.
However, they are also aware of the rumors that suggest that, if the renewal of Vinicius Jr. does not occur soon, he could even wait until 2027 and leave for free, in search of a good signing bonus. An issue that Real Madrid wants to avoid at all costs.
Now, if his renewal becomes too complicated and an economically attractive offer arrives for a player with very good market value still, a millionaire transfer could be contemplated. All this for a Vinicius Jr. who, at a sporting level, is currently far from his best version and who is no longer the only star in the merengue offensive front.
