Changes in the format of the Champions from 2021

During a congress of football organised in Estoril, near of Lisbon, the director of competitions of the UEFA, Giorgio Marchetti, ensured that they will not have changes in the current format of the UEFA Champions League until 2021, but that from then yes could make variations always with the aim to guarantee the plurality and maximum competitiveness of the competition.

The Italian leader does not want that the League of Champions turn into an elitist competition neither that expand the differences regarding the quality of the distinct clubs that compose it, and by this reason is adherent to follow betting by the rule of the "Fair-Play" financial.

"We follow dynamic, have seen that the fair play financial offers results and want to progress in the distribution of income", has signalled, remembering that "if the Superliga is a competition for an elite, enclosed, is not our competition".

The Champions League can experience changes

According to the own Marchetti, the European competitions like the Champions League "have to change to keep on being the greater competitions of clubs of the world. After several analyses, can say that in the cycle 2018-2021 the format will not change".
