This is how the qualifiers for the 2020-21 Champions League will be decided

The sanitary crisis caused by the coronavirus​ caused that at the beginning of the past month of March suspended all the competitions of the panorama futbolístico, including the Champions League, the Europe League and the national leagues. A month and half afterwards, follows the state of alarm and there is not date of resumption for any of the championships.

To day of today and in front of the propagation of the pandemia, can that it was necessary to take into account more than ever the existent possibility that all the competitions are suspended definitively and cancel the season. In this case, of course, it would be necessary to decide the teams of each league that will go to the Champions League and to the Europe League without having finished the parties.

The commission delegated of the RFEF (Real Spanish Federation of Football) approved this Thursday the exceptional extention of the dates of ending of the current season and start of the next further of 30 June, with the will to finish the championships. If it is not like this, the Federation has to have a criterion established to decide which teams will go to Europe in case of definite suspension.

Finally, the criterion will be the one to command to the Champions League and to the Europe League to the teams that remained in said positions in the moment to take the decision to suspend the parties of League. That is to say, FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Seville and Real Sociedad would go to the League of Champions and Athletic of Madrid and Getafe would be those that would contest the Europe League.

The third square of Europe League

It is necessary to remember that it still would be missing for deciding a third place in Europe League that would consist in commanding to the champion of the Glass of the King that, remember, suspended with Real Sociedad and Athletic Club of Bilbao classified for the final. In this sense, play or no, the plan does not vary and this place will be for one of the two finalists.

The Real Sociedad, when being in this moment in fourth position of First Division, would go in directly in the Champions League, whereas the Athletic, in his condition of finalist of Glass, would win square in the Europe League although the Federation affirms that all this would be in that "in the no wished case that the Championship could not reiniciarse, because with that could contest an or two days the classification could change".
