Ousmane Dembélé has reached eleven assists so far in LaLiga, equaling Karim Benzema and even achieving the same figure as Messi in Ligue 1. His goal is to stay on top and be eligible for Qatar 2022
With the recent league victory of FC Barcelona in his visit to Levante, Ousmane Dembélé continues to leave important records after the controversy surrounding him during the last winter market. The Frenchman gave an assist to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, which leaves his figure in this section at 11, which equals Karim Benzema in a smaller number of appearances.
Dembélé has given his best so far in 2022 with nine assists, a number that former Barça captain Lionel Messi also registers at Paris Saint-Germain. Likewise, he has reached these numbers in 14 games, a much lower figure than in the case of Benzema, who required 27 to reach 11 assists so far this season.
The situation of the attacker underwent an important twist at the beginning of the year after Barça condemned him to 'ostracism' for not having signed the renewal in his last year of contract with the club given the high economic demands on the part of the same player and of his representative, Moussa Sissoko. Now, he has become an essential piece for Xavi, who gave him his vote of confidence at a critical moment.
His attitude even earned him at first the rejection of the culé fans, who dedicated loud whistles to him when his name was announced by the internal audio of the Camp Nou. Now, there are eight assists that he has accumulated in the same number of appearances on the pitch. In fact, it was speculated that Adama's arrival would accelerate his departure, but the result has been different.
Dembélé could also return to the French team
The striker's good moment at Barcelona could lead him to be taken into account by the 'Les Bleus' coach, Didier Deschamps, for the defense of the title in Qatar 2022. However, being called up by the coach and getting a place in his XI will not be an easy task against the likes of Kylian Mbappé, Karim Benzema and Antoine Griezmann in the French attack.
