Marcus Rashford will be presented this Wednesday as a new Barça player. For now, there are four numbers available in the culé squad: which one will the English winger take?

FC Barcelona will officially present Marcus Rashford this Wednesday as their second official reinforcement for 2025/26. Roony Bardghji also arrived this summer from Copenhagen, but the Swede signed with a reserve team contract.

The Englishman already signed his contract on Tuesday after getting to know the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper and sharing with the squad and the Barça coaching staff. One of the aspects that remains to be defined of his incorporation has to do with the number that the 27-year-old forward will wear at Barça.

For now, there are four free numbers in the first team. Rashford wore the '10' in his last seven seasons with Manchester United and the '9' with Aston Villa in the second half of 24/25. In the Barça team, both numbers have an owner: Lamine Yamal and Robert Lewandowski.

The four free numbers among the 25 enabled for the first team are: '12', '14', '19' and '22'. The '12' has been free since 2021/22, after the departure of Martin Braithwaite. The Dane took that number in 2021 after the signing of Memphis Depay, who took the '9' that Braithwait, in turn, had assumed after the departure of Luis Suárez.

The '22', meanwhile, was free last season after Ílkay Gündogan's return to Manchester City was confirmed. The German wore that number in 23/24 and, a year earlier, Raphinha had worn it in his debut season.

For their part, the '14' and '19' were released this summer after the departures of Pablo Torre and Ansu Fati. The Cantabrian took this number when he returned from his loan to Girona last summer and the one from Bissau, after going on loan to Monaco, made the '10' available for Lamine Yamal.

The Mataró native, in his second full season with the first team, chose the number that Leo Messi wore in the 06/07 and 07/08 seasons, Ronaldinho's last with the Barça team.

Rashford could choose the '19', a number he already used at United

In that sense, it is very likely that Marcus Rashford will choose the '19' as his number in Barcelona. First, because of his admiration and respect for Lamine, something he made clear on several occasions before his signing was confirmed.

In addition, the English winger already used this number in two seasons with Manchester United. The forward debuted in 15/16 wearing the '39'. In the summer of 2016, already as a first-team player, he took the '19' and scored 11 goals and 4 assists in 53 appearances in a first full season in the elite.

The following season, Rashford scored 13 goals and 8 assists in 52 games, still with the '19' on his back. From 17/18, he took the '10' that he used until his loan departure in January 2025 to Aston Villa.

With the English national team he also used the '19' on several occasions, including the 2018 World Cup in Russia, along with the '11' (in Qatar 2022).
