FC Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, has wasted no time in responding to Athletic Club. It should be remembered that he recently hinted that, within the framework of Nico Williams' incorporation into the 'Leones', they will not settle only for paying the termination clause.

In turn, they will demand that LaLiga and the RFEF do not allow the transfer while the Catalan team does not strictly comply with the current regulations regarding rule 1:1. Apparently, they raised the auditing of all the economic operations of the Barcelona team.

Joan Laporta is puzzled by Athletic's position

In this sense, the Catalan president, who appeared before the media in the run-up to the last chapter of La Llotja del 125 —a program that said goodbye in style at the Palau de la Música—, began by showing his bewilderment at this move by the Basques, stating that:

"I don't understand Athletic's reaction"

Beyond this, 'Jan' explained the reason why he is surprised by the position adopted by Athletic, an institution with which, according to him, Barça enjoys a good relationship, regardless of the ups and downs of recent years:

"We don't have bad relations with Athletic. Yes, there have been a series of misunderstandings and incidents in recent years, but you can't say we have bad relations. We are two clubs with a very long history and with long-standing relations. I don't understand the reactions they are having. With all due respect, let everyone worry about their own business. I don't understand them going to LaLiga to talk about Barça, I don't think it's appropriate, but they will know what they are doing," he pointed out.

Barcelona seeks to comply with rule 1:1 this summer

In this line, Joan Laporta acknowledged that the club is making the necessary moves so that there is no doubt about its operability within LaLiga's economic parameters and rule 1:1, with the aim of being able to effectively incorporate and register players this summer:

"We are working to be in rule 1:1. We were already in it in the winter market. All the steps have been taken to be able to sign normally, so as not to be economically intervened by 'fair play' as happened until the winter. We have to comply with some parameters, which is what we are doing, and depending on that we will be able to sign and register the two players we want to sign... or register," he said.

Laporta rules out controversies with Athletic over Nico Williams

Laporta thus ended any controversy surrounding the possible intervention of Athletic Club in slowing down Nico Williams' arrival this summer market, 'Jan' conveyed his total tranquility regarding the issue and ruled out entering into any dialectical crossing with the Basque team.
