Fc Barcelona announced that it will appeal to the Appeals Committee after the two-game ban imposed on the player Dani Alves for his expulsion in the match against Atlético de Madrid

Calendar of FC Barcelona

The FC Barcelona will try to reduce the punishment imposed by the Committee of Competition to the player Dani Alves, the one who was expelled by an infringement to Yannick Ferreira Carrasco to instances of the VAR. The referee Jesús Gil Manzano showed the red direct to the defender after consulting the monitor, after request of the assistants of vídeoarbitraje. With the resource, the Barça expects to reduce the sanction to an alone party, as the club understands that the infringement did not deserve a so severe punishment.

In application of code 114.1, second paragraph, the Competition Committee stipulated that the 38-year-old must miss two games due to the expulsion. With this, Alves will be out of the games on Sunday against Espanyol, in Cornellá-El Prat, and on Sunday, February 20, in Mestalla, against Valencia, two high-risk visits for Xavi Hernández's men, who with their victory against Atlético on the last date managed to climb to fourth place in the LaLiga table, returning to the 'Champions zone'.

Dani has become a key piece for the operation of Barça. Since his debut in Linarejos for the Copa del Rey, the Brazilian has earned the title showing an impeccable physique. Three assists and one goal in five games are his numbers so far on his return to Barcelona. On Sunday, before the expulsion, he was completing a fantastic game, crowned with a great goal in the 49th minute to make it 4-1 temporarily. Unfortunately, the experienced winger made a mistake that the VAR did not forgive.

The arbitration report summarized the action as follows: "In the 69th minute, player (8) Alves Da Silva, Daniel, was sent off for the following reason: Hitting the opponent's calf with his studs without options to play the ball", wrote Gil Manzano, the main judge of the match. The referee went to the VAR monitor to review the action against Carrasco, since previously he had not shown any card to the side. If the sanction is confirmed, Alves will reappear on February 27 against Athletic at home.

Dani, the sacrificed of the Europa League

With the arrivals of Adama Traoré and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Xavi Hernández was forced to leave the Brazilian out of the roster registered to play in the Europa League. For this reason, Dani will not be present at the match on Thursday 17 against Napoli at Camp Nou, corresponding to the first leg of the round of 32 of the continental tournament. The absence of the '8' will allow Sergiño Dest to recover ownership, at least, in the next four Barça games. The other option on the right side is Óscar Mingueza or, failing that, Sergi Roberto.
