The Technical Arbitrary Committee seems to have a clear stance regarding the request for VAR audios by Real Madrid from their match against RCD Espanyol, where two specific controversial actions occurred

Real Madrid continues in its relentless fight against refereeing in Spain. It should be noted that the white team recently generated intense controversy due to the performance of the main referee Alejandro Muñiz Ruiz and his assistant in the VAR, Javier Iglesias Villanueva, during the match between Real Madrid and RCD Espanyol on matchday 22 of LaLiga EA Sports, which ended with Carlo Ancelotti's team suffering a 1-0 defeat after a goal by Carlos Romero in the 85th minute.

Real Madrid's complaints focus on two specific incidents. First, they refer to a foul committed by Carlos Romero, who coincidentally was the author of the 'periquito' goal, on Kylian Mbappé in the 61st minute, which resulted in only a yellow card for the defender, although an expulsion was requested due to the supposed severity of the foul.

  • Muñiz Ruiz justified his decision on this play in the match report as follows: "Carlos Romero was cautioned for the following reason: For recklessly bringing down an opponent in the contest for the ball".

Secondly, the disallowance of a goal by Vini Jr. (22') is questioned due to a prior foul committed by the French forward on Pol Lozano. A crossing in which the '9' of the White House was seen, in an attempt to shake off his marker, forcefully pushing the 'periquito' midfielder and bringing him down.

As part of the pressure exerted by Real Madrid following these incidents, which they considered detrimental, the club sent a lengthy complaint letter to the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and the Higher Sports Council (CSD). In that letter, among other demands, they requested "the immediate delivery of the VAR audios related to the two key plays of the match", arguing "the seriousness of what happened".

The stance of the Technical Arbitrary Committee (CTA) regarding Real Madrid's request

However, apparently, Real Madrid will not be able to obtain the aforementioned audios from the Technical Arbitrary Committee. According to reports from 'Mundo Deportivo', this request cannot be fulfilled due to certain restrictions.

Consequently, the only way for the Chamartín team to access these audios, which contain the communications between Muñiz Ruiz (main referee) and Iglesias Villanueva (VAR) during those actions, would be to request a meeting with the Technical Committee of Referees. In that case, an appointment would be arranged at the facilities of the Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas to show them the audio file, following the established procedure with other clubs that have previously requested to view these recordings.
