Calendar of FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona will officially announce the signing of Joan García this Wednesday. Once LaLiga has notified Espanyol of the payment of the 25 million euros of his clause (plus 1.34 extra 'kilos' of the CPI), only a couple of bureaucratic procedures remain to be resolved to present the first reinforcement of 2025/26.

The player from Sallent signed a contract last week for six seasons, until June 2026, where he will initially receive around 5 million euros gross, with an increasing salary according to his performance in the coming seasons. During 24/25, his emoluments in the 'periquito' team were barely around €300,000 per year.

In total, the signing implies an annual amortization of €4.4M, distributed over six seasons. In principle, García would sign until 2030, but this represented a greater amortization, of €5.3M per year.

During Tuesday morning, Joan returned to Barcelona after two weeks of vacation. "I'm already home," said the 24-year-old goalkeeper when approached by 'Jijantes'. When referring to when there would be official confirmation about his future, the goalkeeper launched a brief phrase: "Well!... may it go well!".

In principle, the footballer must go to the Ciutat Esportiva on Wednesday to pass the medical examination and attend the formal act of his presentation as a reinforcement of Barça. Afterwards, he will have around three more weeks to rest before joining the Azulgrana pre-season on July 13.

In 24/25, García played a total of 38 matches (all in the League) with Espanyol, being a determining figure for the 'Blanquiazul' team to retain the category. In total, he received 51 goals (1.34 per match), with 8 clean sheets and 146 saves (leader in the tournament), that is, an average of almost 4 saves per match.

In this way, Barça manages to sign the Spanish goalkeeper with the best projection of the present for an affordable price. The player from Sallent is already listed for around 25 'kilos' in Transfermarkt, while a year ago his market value did not reach one million euros (it was worth €800,000 in June 2024).

Barça will still not be able to register Joan García: Why?

Although Barça officially announces the signing of Joan García, they will still not be able to register him in their squad. The reason, according to Javier Tebas, is that the club still does not meet the requirements to return to rule 1:1 and, therefore, is still exceeded in its salary margin.

"Barça has to do things to be able to register him, not many, but it has to do things and it already knows what they are, but we are not even on the dates, we will see," said the president of the employers' association when referring to the signing of the Catalan goalkeeper.

The good news for the culés is that there are still two months until the start of the season. This gives enough room for maneuver to the Azulgrana board, which for now maintains total tranquility regarding having enough 'Fair Play' from July to sign without restrictions.

A key operation to resolve this mess has to do with the sale of 475 VIP seats of the new Spotify Camp Nou. Until the Azulgrana auditor Crowe approves the income of 100 million euros in the 24/25 financial year, LaLiga will not compute the operation in the culé finances. Afterwards, we have to see how much money the team enters for its 'exit operation'.

Players like Ansu Fati, Iñaki Peña, Pablo Torre, Pau Víctor, Héctor Fort, Gerard Martín, Andreas Christensen and Marc-André ter Stegen can leave in the coming weeks through loans and/or transfers, generating income while freeing up salary margin and quotas in the squad for 25/26.
