Celta signs Moriba and Barça charges: how much will he earn?

FC Barcelona continues to generate income thanks to players they dispensed with in the past. On this occasion, the Azulgrana team will receive a small economic benefit from the definitive transfer of Ilaix Moriba from RB Leipzig to Celta de Vigo. The Catalan team had sold the Spanish-Guinean midfielder to the German team in 2021 for €16M, reserving a percentage on a future sale.

Both the Galician and German clubs confirmed through their social networks that the operation was successfully completed. The Vigo team made effective the purchase clause included in the loan agreement signed during the past summer market. According to Sky Sports Germany, said clause was set at €6M.

As part of the original agreement with 'Los Toros Rojos', Barcelona will receive 10% of the total amount, that is, about 600,000 euros for a player who debuted under the direction of Ronald Koeman in 2021 and who played 18 games with the first team. Although it was seen as a promising project, Moriba ended up leaving the Culé team due to alleged economic discrepancies in his renewal, in a decision that he himself later acknowledged as a mistake.

After an irregular period at RB Leipzig, where he failed to settle, Ilaix Moriba was first loaned to Valencia CF, Getafe CF and then to Celta de Vigo. It was precisely in Galicia where the midfielder managed to rediscover his best version.

Under the orders of Claudio Giráldez, he had a remarkable 2024/25 season in which he played 2,271 minutes spread over 35 matches, scoring one goal and providing two assists.

In turn, Ilaix showed himself to be a player with great physical display, arrival in the area and shooting ability from medium distance, qualities that led the Vigo team to make the economic effort to ensure his definitive incorporation. The new contract links him to Celta until 2029.

In this way, Barcelona once again benefits from an operation with a player who was no longer part of their sports project, as recently happened with the sale of Jean-Clair Todibo to West Ham. The club also remains expectant for possible moves involving Ez Abde or Óscar Mingueza, under a policy that consists of getting rid of players with little space in the first team, but with the potential to revalue themselves and leave profits in future sales.
