The sports director of Barça detailed the club's priorities for the summer: reinforcements in attack and balance in the squad
The sports director of FC Barcelona, Deco, was once again receptive when talking about the club's planning for the 2025/26 summer transfer market. The Portuguese executive gave an interview to the Brazilian media Globoesporte, from the Arena Deco Beach, his sports complex located in Indaiatuba.
During the conversation, Deco made it clear that, for the moment, the Blaugrana team would not consider it a priority to reinforce either the defense or the midfield, thanks to the abundance of talent already present in those areas:
"I think we have enough balance, both in defense and in midfield. There are players who are still going to grow. Like Gavi, who is returning from an injury, but who will improve a lot with next year's preseason. There is also Marc Bernal, who was injured at the beginning of the season. We have Araujo and Dani Olmo, with whom we are working so that they do not suffer injuries again," he revealed.
Reinforcing the attack: the great objective of FC Barcelona for this summer
That is where Deco reinforced the idea that Barcelona has set its sights on strengthening the offensive side this summer:
"In attack, it will depend on what we can do in the market. But perhaps it is the only sector in which we identify that one or another player is missing."
It must be remembered that, in addition to the practically closed incorporation of goalkeeper Joan García, Barça is looking for a left winger with very specific characteristics: a fast winger, with overflow, easy for one-on-one, who can take advantage of the left side in depth, with goals, good associative capacity and a lot of physical display.
In this context, several names have begun to sound as possible offensive reinforcements for the Blaugrana club:
- Luis Díaz (Liverpool)
- Nico Williams (Athletic Club)
- Rafael Leão (AC Milan)
- Marcus Rashford (Manchester United)
- Ademola Lookman (Atalanta)
All of them meet the profile desired by the sports management and could be key to enhancing the team's attack for next season.
Deco values the work of the board in times of crisis
During the interview with Globoesporte, Deco also defended the work of the current board in a context of evident economic limitation:
"Barcelona had a major financial crisis at the beginning of Laporta's management; it was earning less than it was spending. That is something that you have to correct over time."
In turn, he emphasized the club's courage in launching the ambitious Camp Nou renovation project: "In the midst of that process, the president made the bold decision to completely renovate the Camp Nou. We went from a stadium for 90,000 people to one for 50,000, which causes revenue to drop considerably," he pointed out.
Likewise, Deco also valued the agreements reached by the club to move forward: "Today, the club has signed one of the largest contracts with Nike. We will return to play at the Camp Nou with a capacity of 65,000, and the following year, practically 100%. The reconstruction process is underway," he asserted.
The 'fair play' financial, the last great obstacle
However, despite the progress in economic matters, the Barça sports director acknowledged that there is still an important obstacle for Barça in this market:
"Currently, the problem is no longer financial, but of 'fair play' financial, due to the strict rules that exist."
A challenge that the club must solve to be able to register without problems the reinforcements that it intends to incorporate this summer.
