The president of Barça privately addressed the Nico Williams issue and made the club's position clear to the most senior members

Everything seems to indicate that Nico Williams will be a player for FC Barcelona. According to reports, the Azulgrana team already has a personal agreement with the Pamplona-born left winger, which is only pending negotiation with Athletic Club.

However, everything indicates that the Basque team remains firm and will not facilitate the departure of its star player. They will only let him leave after the respective full payment of his release clause, which is set at €62M.

Laporta conveys optimism about the signing of Nico

In this context, Joan Laporta, president of Barcelona, has reportedly shown optimism about the possible incorporation of the younger of the Williams brothers, according to Mundo Deportivo. During his most recent appearance before the club's senate —the thousand oldest members— in the Auditori 1899, 'Jan' reportedly informally confirmed the interest in Nico and the progress in the operation.

It's worth remembering that before this private meeting, Laporta had already dropped a hint during his public speech, stating that Barça was close to closing the signing of "a player who generates a lot of excitement", without giving names. These statements made more sense after what was allegedly said behind closed doors to the senators.

A strategic signing for the present and the future

According to MD, during that summit with the club's most senior members, the Azulgrana president reportedly tried to calm concerns about the state of negotiations with Athletic Club, making it clear that Barcelona is seriously working on the incorporation of Nico Williams.

If the operation is closed, the Barcelona team would make a statement of authority in the market, incorporating one of the most promising and sought-after young left wingers in Europe. The Pamplona native would thus become the second reinforcement for Barcelona this summer, after the official signing of Joan García, and would represent a firm step in strengthening the sports project both in the short and long term.
