Manchester United tries to thwart Viktor Gyökeres' signing for Arsenal, improving the offer of more than €70M that the 'gunners' presented to Sporting CP for the '9'

Viktor Gyökeres' future continues to point strongly to the Premier League, but his new team is not yet clear. Although Arsenal had reached a verbal agreement with the Swedish striker, his club, Sporting CP, does not give the green light to his departure this summer.

In principle, the Lisbon team hopes to receive between 75 and 80 million net for the transfer of their goalscorer, who has scored 54 goals in 52 games last season, in addition to giving 13 assists.

In that sense, Manchester United seems willing to make a final effort for the '9'. Coach Rúben Amorim insists on his signing and the 'red devils' could offer a figure closer to what Sporting aspires to and with a faster payment scheme than the one proposed by Arsenal.

According to information leaked by the Portuguese newspaper 'A Bola', Mikel Arteta's team offers 63.5 'kilos' fixed and another €10M in variables easy to reach, one of them of €2.5M for playing 20 games. At Old Trafford, they could get closer to 70 million as an immediate payment to leave the 'gunners' without options.

Arsenal, priority for Viktor Gyökeres for now

Beyond United's insistence and the possibility of reuniting with his former coach at Sporting, Gyökeres prefers to wear the Arsenal shirt for a fundamental reason: the Champions League. Unlike the 'red devils', the 'gunners' will play in the top European competition in 25/26.

Manchester, on the other hand, was left out of Europe after falling in the UEL final against Tottenham (1-0) and finishing the last edition of the Premier League in 16th place. Although the club trusts in Rúben Amorim's ability to lift a sports project that is in free fall, the Swedish striker prefers to go to a team with a more positive present.

In that sense, Fabrizio Romano assures that Viktor will do everything possible to tip the balance in favor of the London team, which this summer has already signed Martín Zubimendi (€70M), Noni Madueke (€55.4M), Christian Norgaard (€11.6M) and Kepa Arrizabalaga (€5.8M).

Arsenal hopes to end more than two decades of drought in the Premier League in 2026, but is also aiming strongly for the Champions League after reaching the semifinals in 24/25. However, the team will have to improve its offer to close the signing of Gyökeres.

Sporting insists on waiting for the best offer for Viktor Gyökeres

Meanwhile, Sporting, although they promised the Swedish striker to facilitate his departure this year with an affordable price, prioritizes receiving the best possible offer for the 'killer'. In fact, various Portuguese portals assure that the club will not let the '9' go for less than 80 million fixed, ensuring to reach this figure through variables that Arsenal refuses to accept.

In any case, the 'gunners' will have to move quickly to close the transfer, as United is very serious about the 27-year-old player. Viktor has a contract until 2028 and his market value already reaches 75 'kilos' in Transfermarkt. FC Barcelona had him on their radar, but going for a center forward is not in the plans of the 'culés' this year.
