The May Clásico could be played at an alternative venue due to the risk of not being able to play at Camp Nou. Real Madrid will respect Barça's decision

Calendar of FC Barcelona

A new front has opened in the Catalan City. Although the idea of FC Barcelona is to finish the season at the new Spotify Camp Nou and the construction is progressing well, there are still doubts about being able to reopen the Blaugrana stronghold before next summer. With Montjuïc ruled out starting the last week of April due to various events organized by the Ajuntament, the culés are considering various alternatives.

In this sense, one of the matches involved in this new 'obstacle' is the Clásico against Real Madrid on May 11. The position of Real Madrid was concerning in Can Barça, as the merengues have always been reluctant to take a LaLiga match abroad. However, 'SPORT' has reported that the merengues will respect the option to play at a European stadium if all competent bodies give their approval.

Madrid Could Benefit from the Venue Change

In Chamartín, they would not put obstacles to the 'move' as they understand that the initiative would come from Barça and they consider that there would be aspects that could favor them in the most important match of the season. The fact of playing in a neutral ground would reduce the pressure from the crowd in favor of the culés, in addition to representing a good business opportunity for the club's image.

For their part, in the Blaugrana offices, they are doing everything possible to expedite timelines and make the return to Les Corts effective within the scheduled date, although they are also working on formulas to avoid leaving Montjuïc if the Camp Nou is not ready. Options like Montilivi, RCDE Stadium, and even playing the match in France, would be on the table, but the Catalans will put all their efforts into playing the Clásico at home.
