Iñaki Peña will join Barça's pre-season without having his future defined. The goalkeeper is not in the club's plans for 24/25 and his departure is a matter of days
FC Barcelona starts pre-season this Sunday. In principle, goalkeeper Iñaki Peña will be part of the group of players called up to undergo medical tests and, subsequently, on Monday, to carry out the first double training session under the orders of Hansi Flick.
In this sense, the '13' of the Blaugrana team will join the rest of his teammates without yet having his future defined, since, for now, he would be the fourth goalkeeper of the team, behind Joan García, Wojciech Szczęsny and Marc-André ter Stegen.
Likewise, the player knows that due to this scenario he is not in the plans of the Catalan club and that, yes or yes, he must find a team where he can have the minutes he wants.
Similarly, according to the most recent rumors about the goalkeeper, the one from Alicante would be willing to change his environment, as he knows he is on the list of Culés discards and does not plan to put obstacles to his departure.
Barça is clear with Iñaki: the best thing is a departure
In this context, the goalkeeper would have made it clear that his priority is to have minutes as a starter, an ambition that was frustrated in the second half of the 2024/25 season, when he lost the starting position to Szczesny. Although Peña has a contract with Barça until June 2026, the club's sports management contemplates the possibility of granting him a letter of freedom in order to facilitate his departure in this summer market. His renewal, for now, is completely ruled out.
Therefore, both parties agree on the need to resolve his future as soon as possible, aware that prolonging this situation could affect the team's sports planning and the player's own projection.
Iñaki Peña has suitors in the market, but remains linked to Barça
The '13' of the Blaugrana team has no shortage of interested clubs. Celta de Vigo, Betis or Espanyol would have sounded out the goalkeeper, but so far his future remains linked to Barcelona, due to the lack of formal offers.
Another team that had Peña in their folders was Galatasaray, where he played the second part of the 2022/23 season on loan. However, the Turkish giant in recent hours would have reactivated its interest precisely in his teammate Ter Stegen, which could indicate that, if the interest in the Alicante native is true, this would take a back seat.
Iñaki Peña has a market value of 8 million euros, according to Transfermarkt. However, the Culé sports dome still has hopes of obtaining at least 10 'kilos' for its sale.
